Cornwall Arthritis Trust charity receives donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation

Professor Anthony Woolf (Chair of Cornwall Arthritis Trust) & Rachel Faulkner (Project Lead for Cornwall Arthritis Trust) are both delighted to receive the donation from Yorkshire Building Society (Falmouth) – Thank you.

A charity which helps people in Cornwall suffering from arthritis to find help and support for their condition has received a donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation after being nominated by colleagues from the Falmouth branch.

Cornwall Arthritis Trust received the £500.00 donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation to help it ensure support is accessible to all who have arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions across Cornwall. They help by getting out and about in the community and offering education, awareness and creativity sessions to help inform and support local groups across the county so people living with arthritis or other musculoskeletal condition feel more confident in self-managing their condition as well as knowing what local support and opportunities are available. They also want to improve employment opportunities by working with local small and medium sized enterprises to give local employers the knowledge, confidence and support to help protect and promote employees with musculoskeletal conditions in the workplace by being musculoskeletal aware. The charity wants to enable people suffering from arthritis to live their best life and to ultimately conquer these conditions. They fund world-class research and innovations for people with arthritis. The encourage, empower and educate sufferers, their families and professionals and campaign for access to the best treatment care.

The charity was nominated because Cornwall has an aging population, and the county also has areas that rank among the highest in the league table for multiple deprivation. It has an influx of visitors during summer months which, in combination with an aging population and lack of social care, ensures year-round stress on healthcare services. The Cornwall Arthritis Trust was created to support the rheumatology service which has a dedicated multidisciplinary team and research team.

Dawn Littlejohn of Yorkshire Building Society in Falmouth, said: “We are proud to be able to support Cornwall Arthritis Trust in our community with a donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation. The work that they are doing to support people of all ages suffering from arthritis is enabling them to know how they can help themselves as well as what support is available in the local community.”

Prof Anthony Woolf, Chair of the charity, said: “We are really thankful for the donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation that recognises the impact of arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions on people in Cornwall and will help us continue to provide them with support.”
